Sweet Jacob and the failed escape plan

Well, we had quite a start to our day this morning.

Max (our little stray puppy) started barking from Jacob's top bunk at 4:30 this morning.  I got up to let him out and saw that Jacob and Joel were not in their beds......  A bathroom light was on, but no boys and the door was unlocked.  I began to panic, wondering where my children were!  I let the dog out and thought I heard something outside and called for them.  Finally Joel answered me.

"WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING???"

He hesitated but finally told me that they were trying to help the chickens.  He wasn't clear what the plan was, or he was half asleep, who knows.  Levi has a coop with about 30 chickens and today is the day that he planned on killing the biggest ones.  Jacob was on the roof putting the chickens in cardboard boxes and was planning on taking them out to the forest to set them free.  You see, my Jacob is an animal lover and didn't want his friends to be killed today.

Levi has spent a lot of money and time raising these chickens and would have been so mad!  Well, that's an understatement!!!  I wasn't exactly thrilled to be on the roof at 4:30 in the morning......  And, I'm not sure how he thought he was going to get out the gate without a key......

My sweet Jacob!  He is a bit sad this morning, but the deed is done.  The funny thing is this boy LOVES fried chicken!  I guess it's just hard when he considered these chicks his pets.   Like it or not, but one of those warm chickens is about to go in my crockpot for some yummy soup for dinner!

Never a dull moment around here!

We owe it to Max for saving the day!

(I guess the chickens wouldn't see it that way!)
